Update: The pool's opening has been rescheduled to June 4.

New Cumnock Outdoor Swimming Pool WILL OPEN on 28th of May 2011 with a FUN SWIM FROM 12:00 UNTIL 4:00. FREE ADMISSION

But will this be its last season?

"I was at the liaison group meeting last night and it's been decided to have a public meeting about the possible closure of the pool. Can you post this to all the New Cumnock folk on your New Cumnock site please? It's on Thursday 16th June at 7pm in the Community Centre.

NERV are pulling out, so there will be no one to run it. The meeting has been called to see what the public feeling is. A big turnout will be needed. Hopefully this will lead to it being kept going."

Well said Elaine!

So,

USE IT OR LOSE IT!!!!

It's up to you.

The New Cumnock Group Facebook discussion is at: http://www.facebook.com/topic.php?uid=117958724883030&topic=328

Should the pool be kept open?

How do we keep it open?

Who will run it?

Where will the money come from?

Could we use water from Sweet Afton to fill the pool, promoting a swim in the Rabbies Afton Water?

STV 11 May 2010 http://scotland.stv.tv/see-do/176572-get-set-for-summer-at-scotlands-outdoor-pools/
Inverclyde Council have reopened Gourock’s Lido for the summer, having invested £1.8 million on a complete refurbishment. Set on the banks of the Clyde, it has remained popular with local and visitors to the town alike.

Taking water from the river through a filter before it is heated to a positively Mediterranean temperature, the facility also now houses a gym and a toddlers pool. It doesn’t just cater to sun-lovers either, the pool remains open in all weather except thunderstorms and some users say the best time to enjoy a swim is when it is bucketing down.
There are a few sites around where you can have your say on OUR Pool situation and I was pleased to see URsTV doing a piece. http://urstv.com/archives/2011/05/14/new-cumnock-to-lose-their-pool/

For 2011, URsTV is aiming to:

 • produce a documentary about a very prominent local building (it’s all hush hush at the moment),
 • video the programme of events which unfold during the year in a local farm,
 • cover as many gala days, local club events and
 • report the news as and when it happens!

They will also be running various competitions with fantastic prizes on offer so keep an eye out on the URsTV website for further bulletins.

Due to unforseen circumstances the pool opening has been rescheduled to Saturday 4th June.

Sorry for any inconvenience. (I didn't know about the change)

Tonight, 16th of June 2011, the community of New Cumnock, well about 50 of us, decided to look into the future of our Open Air Heated Swimming Pool. Would we be mad to take it over when it closes in September? Probably. With the help of lovers of open air swimming we will give it a bloody good try.

Many thanks to ALL the committee/volunteers who have kept it open so far and are keeping it going right now. Good job we had the NERV.

If you think we should let it close, tell us now.

New Cumnock Community Open Air Swimming Pool Committee meetings are being held every Wednesday throughout February at 18:00 at the Community Centre.
We're trying our best to get your pool open for the beginning of May but we need your help. Please volunteer a few hours of your time.
